Source to the Sea 8 days/7 nights
Enjoy a combination of cruising and coach touring as we commence our journey at the very start of the Murray River in the Australian Alps, following its long journey finally ending at the Murray mouth at the Southern Ocean in South Australia, over 2,520 kilometres away.
Day 1. Arrive at the Batman Hill Hotel on Collins, Melbourne after 2.00pm for check in. Meet in the evening for a welcome dinner where your guide will brief you on this new and exciting tour.
Day 2. Enjoy breakfast before boarding your coach. From Melbourne travel along the Hume Freeway, stopping at Benella for morning tea, and Beechworth for lunch. Continue on to Corryong for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 3. After breakfast travel to Khancoban a beautifully landscaped town of trees and parks featuring a superb rose garden. Travel further along the Alpine Way to 'Scammells lookout'. The 1000m high lookout offers outstanding scenic views over Western Falls Wilderness and Main Range, including Mt Kosciuszko, Mt Abbott, Mt Townsend, and Carruthers Peak. Enjoy morning tea at Geehi Rest area before travelling back toward Khancoban stopping for lunch and a tour of the Murray 1 Power Station. In the afternoon we travel back to Corryong stopping to spend time in the visitor information centre. Reboard the coach travelling onto Albury for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 4. Board our boat “Spirit II” after breakfast. You will enjoy the day on board cruising on the Hume Dam. Return to Albury for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 5. Depart Albury commence our days touring heading to Yarrawonga, drive across the Yarrawonga weir, view Lake Mulwala, an artificial lake formed by the damming of the Murray River. Arrive in Echuca board the “PS Canberra” for a scenic luncheon cruise. In the afternoon we will make our way to Swan Hill for a late afternoon cruise aboard the “PS Pyap”. Overnight dinner, bed & breakfast in Swan Hill. Tonight we have arranged for our group to view the new Heartbeat of the Murray Laser Light Show – a new night time experience on the banks of the Little Murray, that will use laser lighting and special effects to project stories of the Murray River and the region onto a screen of water from the river.
Day 6. Depart Swan Hill view the ever-changing river as we head to Mildura for lunch and a cruise aboard the “PV Rothbury”. In the afternoon we drive to Renmark for a BBQ dinner on the banks of the Murray River before enjoying an evening cruise aboard the “PS Industry”. Dinner, bed & breakfast will be in Renmark.
Day 7. Depart Renmark view Lake Bonney as we travel to Morgan for morning tea and a presentation by the local historical society. Re – board the coach travel to Swan Reach stopping for lunch at the local hotel. In the afternoon we continue our journey stopping at Mannum for a chance to visit the river boat museum and enjoy afternoon tea. Depart Mannum travelling to Goolwa for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 8. Depart the motel after breakfast, travel short distance to the Goolwa Wharf. Board the “Spirit of the Coorong” for a 3½ hour cruise to the Murray Mouth and into the pristine waters of the Coorong National Park. While cruising we will stop for a guided boardwalk through the dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula to the Great Southern Ocean. Lunch will be served as we cruise back to the Goolwa Wharf. Board the coach for our final part of the journey arriving in Adelaide at the Central Bus depot at approx. 4.00pm.
