Is there a toilet on board?

Yes.  On Spirit of the Murray there are 2 separate toilets (one for men, one for women).  On Spirit II there is one unisex toilet.

Do we need to book?

Yes bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.  20% Deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot.  We require the balance of payment one month prior to cruise departure date.

Seats are limited and we may face rooming restrictions at some accommodation along the way.  We hold group bookings with other accommodation and catering companies and must notify them of our numbers/names/requirements at least 1 month out.

How much should I pack?

We suggest one bag per person is ample. Cruise dress is informal and casual so wear whatever is comfortable. Your luggage is transferred daily from the boat to hotel reception and back again and is not easily accessible on the boat so you may wish to bring a small overnight bag to carry your needs for each day. Please try to limit hold luggage to 15 kgs.

Can I leave my car at the cruise departure point?

Yes. Parking is available near departure locations for most cruises. A small charge may apply.

You should check whether transfers back to departure town are included in the cruise.

How many people will be on the cruise?

Spirit of the Murray can carry a maximum of 43 passengers.

Spirit II can carry a maximum of 32 passengers.

Some cruises may be full, while others may only be 3/4 full.  On some cruises the number of single passengers may be limited by the accommodation.

Are there drinks available on the cruises?

We carry drinking water on board our boats.  We also supply tea and coffee with morning/afternoon teas.

Generally our cruises include meals only.  Beverages are the responsibility of the passenger to purchase along the way (if you choose to).  Majority of breakfasts are a buffet style and have the usual tea/coffee/water/milk/juices available to choose from.  Dinners are usually at a local hotel and have normal bar facilities available for purchases of own beverages.

Do I have a choice of cabins?

No.

Unlike other cruise boats, accommodation is not on board the boat.  Accommodation is in different riverside towns along the way, in comfortable en-suite hotel or motel rooms.

Being in a riverside town each evening you can go for a walk and explore the area at your leisure, just watch TV in your room, or have a drink with the locals or fellow passengers in the hotel bar before dinner. The choice is yours.

How physically fit do I need to be?

You do not need to be very fit as most activities and walks are not strenuous and distances not great. At most times you have the option of remaining on board, or returning to the boat when you wish. There are a couple of steps to board the boat and there are steps to the upper open air deck.

Some cruises will require more physical fitness than others due to the uneven banks of the river, water levels, where we can board the boat and what on shore activities are included.

If you are unsure or concerned about this, please speak to our friendly staff for further advice.

What information do I receive regarding the cruise route?

You will receive a passenger cruise folder containing day sheets, which outline what you will see and do each day, menus, distance travelled, where your accommodation is, and some history or facts about the area.

The captain provides commentary on bird and wildlife, historical points of interest, local stories and sights.

In addition to this:

  • On cruises based between Goolwa and Renmark you receive a complimentary Murray River Pilot Book;
  • On cruises based between Renmark and Mildura you receive a complimentary River Murray Charts Book; and
  • On all other cruises you receive a complimentary booklet of maps/route information so that you can follow your journey.

No, alcohol is not available on board.  Generally, beverages are purchased by the passenger (as desired) along the way.

Are the cruises suitable for those with physical disability?

Maybe, depending on extent of disability.  As long as the person is able to walk independently, negotiate 5 steps into the cabin of the boat or onto the boat when boarding from the banks of the river.  You need to be able to move around using handrails on seats each side of a narrow aisle for support.  Our boats are not accessible for wheelchairs or walkers.

It is best to give us a call if you are concerned as some of the cruises require different levels of accessibility/boarding etc than others.

Can I smoke while on the cruise?

No, our boats are a smoke free zone and you are not permitted to smoke on board any of our boats.

Can a cruise be cancelled?

As our cruises are subject to operational circumstances and water levels the company reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary as necessary.

We strongly recommend that you purchase sufficient travel insurance.

We will always give you as much notice as we can.

Do you have wheelchair access?

Unfortunately we do not.

Both our boats have steps down to the inside of the cabins and only a narrow aisle.
